HEARING CONSERVATION COURSES

The basic objective of this course is to provide training which results in competence as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist (OHC). The OHC develops skills in various required elements of a hearing conservation program so that they can function successfully as a member of a hearing conservation team.

The course provides basic knowledge and practical use of modern equipment for management, safety directors and medical personnel. Manual and microprocessor audiometers are provided for participants' use during the course practicum. Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive a certificate of completion from CAOHC.

 

Course Topics:

  • Course orientation

  • Physical acoustics and psycho-acoustics for the OHC

  • The typical audiometer; audiometer performance checks; methods of calibration; audiometric techniques

  • Supervised audiometric testing

  • Audiometric test room maintenance and certification

  • OSHA, Cal OSHA, & MSHA occupational noise control legislation

  • Personal hearing protective devices: types of attenuation characteristics, proper fitting

  • Noise survey, measurement and analysis

  • Responsibility to employees, administrative duties

 

Provider approved by California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # 16043 for 20 contact hours.

 

Certification is valid for 5 years.

 

Recertification:

In order to qualify for recertification, you must attend a course before your certification expires. There is no grace period. However, you can request an extension up to 30 days before the date of expiration on your certificate. To verify with CAOHC that your certification is still valid, click here. To request an extension, click here. Participants, not MEDI, are responsible for ensuring eligibility for recertification.

 

 

ATTENTION: CAOHC has recently made significant changes to its certification and recertification examination procedures. Due to these changes, MEDI strongly recommends reviewing material provided by CAOHC on their website (www.caohc.org) prior to attending the course. PLEASE NOTE: Course fees include CAOHC Certification and a MEDI course manual. The 5th edition of the CAOHC Hearing Conservation Manual  can be purchased for an additional fee on our online store here or by calling our office.

 

 

LOCATION: Hearing and Spirometry Courses are held at the Hampton Inn & Suites at 800 Mason Street, Vacaville, CA 95688. Please call 707-469-6200 for hotel reservations information. When making reservations, please reference our MEDI COURSE and the hotel will honor a special rate, which includes a hot breakfast each morning (call our office for current rate). If you will be flying in, the closest airport is the Sacramento International Airport. Oakland International Airport and San Francisco International Airports are additional options.
